Sean Payton just opened the door to a reunion that would instantly add another wrinkle to Denver’s offense. The Broncos are expected to explore signing Taysom Hill, the free-agent Swiss Army knife who spent five seasons playing for Payton in New Orleans. )
Hill confirmed in late July that he will not return to the Saints, ending a nine-year run in which he lined up at quarterback, tight end, receiver, running back and kick returner. He also made NFL history as the first Super Bowl-era player to top 1,000 career yards as a passer, runner and receiver. )
This is not a done deal, though. Payton said Denver will evaluate the possibility, which makes Hill a potential camp addition rather than an imminent signing. At 36 years old, Hill would need to show he can still contribute on offense and special teams, but the fit is obvious: Payton already knows how to manufacture touches for him, and Denver could use another physical chess piece around its quarterback.
The timing makes this especially interesting. With training camp underway as of August 3, the Broncos have a limited window to test Hill before preseason roster decisions begin. If the workouts look right, this could move quickly. If not, Hill may remain unsigned while waiting for a team that can give him a defined role. For now, the Payton-Hill connection is real, the interest is reported, and the reunion is far from guaranteed.
