Logan Stanley to Seattle? Late-Summer UFA Market Starts to Shift

Logan Stanley to Seattle? Late-Summer UFA Market Starts to Shift

The free-agent board is getting thinner, but one massive defenseman is still sitting there—and that could make the next move especially interesting. Logan Stanley remains unsigned after a breakout season, and the longer he waits, the more realistic a short-term bargain becomes for a team hunting size on the blue line.

Stanley, listed at 6-foot-7 and 231 pounds, put up nine goals and 26 points last season while bouncing between Winnipeg and Buffalo. That combination of reach, penalty-killing potential, and late-blooming offense gives him a profile contenders usually don’t ignore for long. The catch is price: reports earlier this summer suggested his camp was seeking as much as $25 million over four or five years.

That number looks harder to reach now. The market has moved quickly, most rosters are crowded, and several clubs have already filled their depth-defense needs. Seattle stands out as a logical fit after losing size on its back end, while Winnipeg could still revisit a reunion if the contract demands soften. Buffalo also knows exactly what Stanley can bring in a heavy matchup role.

  • 👀 What’s known: Stanley is still unsigned as of August 2.
  • 📈 What’s reported: His camp has sought significant term and money.
  • 🤔 What’s speculation: A one- or two-year prove-it deal could be the bridge that finally gets him signed.

This feels less like a disappearing act and more like a waiting game. If Stanley lowers the ask, the phone may start ringing fast.
