The managerial carousel is starting to turn in Queens, and the Mets find themselves at the center of it. After navigating the back half of the season with an interim leader, the organization is preparing for a full search that could bring a high-profile name into the dugout.
League sources describe a process that values both experience and the ability to connect with a talented but underachieving roster. Figures with Cooperstown credentials have entered the conversation, offering instant credibility in a market that demands results. One possibility already works within the organization, potentially easing the transition and preserving some of the current coaching group.
Other veterans who have been on the other side of a firing are also drawing interest, though the trend toward first-time managers makes any such hire noteworthy. The incoming skipper will inherit a club that showed signs of life once the games stopped mattering as much, raising questions about how that energy translates when the stakes return.
Timing remains a factor. With a potential work stoppage approaching, some clubs may hesitate to lock in a new voice too early. Yet waiting too long risks losing preferred candidates to teams that move faster. For the Mets, getting this decision right feels like the first step in resetting the narrative around a franchise that still possesses plenty of pieces.
