Bryce Young, Panthers Defense Turn Falcons Rivalry Into Rout

Atlanta never got the rivalry started. Carolina finished it early, turning Mercedes-Benz Stadium into a long afternoon of missed chances and Panthers noise.

Bryce Young threw for 287 yards and three touchdowns, including two scoring strikes to Darren Waller, while Carolina's defense kept Atlanta pinned in survival mode during a 34-3 victory Sunday. The Panthers led 10-0 after one quarter, stretched the margin to 20-3 by halftime and added two more touchdowns in the third.

The decisive sequence belonged to Devin Lloyd. The Carolina linebacker intercepted two passes and returned one 16 yards for a touchdown, capping a defensive performance that produced four takeaways. Atlanta, now 0-2, never found a response after the Panthers began forcing short fields and disrupting the Falcons' rhythm.

Young completed 23 of 36 attempts and improved to 5-1 against Atlanta. That record matters because this has become less of a one-off rivalry upset and more of a recurring Carolina problem for the Falcons: the Panthers have now won four straight in the series.

Carolina is 1-1, but the bigger takeaway is how complete this looked. The offense attacked downfield, Waller finished drives and the defense kept Atlanta from building anything sustainable. For a team trying to establish its identity, this was the kind of road win that creates belief. For the Falcons, it was a second straight loss and a reminder that the NFC South will not wait for them to figure things out.
