Joey Porter Jr. Trade Market Is Starting to Take Shape?

Joey Porter Jr. Trade Market Is Starting to Take Shape?

Joey Porter Jr.’s contract standoff has produced the kind of side effect Pittsburgh would rather avoid: other teams are starting to test whether the Steelers are willing to listen.

At least one club has called Pittsburgh about Porter, according to a report from Pro Football Talk, though the Steelers are not believed to be actively shopping the cornerback. That distinction matters. This is not an agreed trade, and there is no indication a deal is close. It is, however, enough activity to put Porter’s name into a market that did not exist publicly a few weeks ago.

The Steelers and Porter reached an impasse during the offseason, with Pittsburgh maintaining its long-standing position against negotiating new contracts once the regular season begins. Porter is playing on a rookie deal that pays him less than $4 million in 2026, while entering a contract year and trying to establish himself as a premium outside corner.

His absence and conditioning-related issues have only added tension to the situation. Pittsburgh still has every incentive to keep a young starter with legitimate man-coverage value, but the asking price reportedly remains high enough to discourage casual buyers. A team would not just be acquiring Porter; it would be inheriting the next negotiation.

For now, this is exploratory contact rather than a trade push. But if the Steelers continue holding their line and Porter’s camp stays unhappy, the calls are unlikely to stop.
