Could Brian Thomas Jr. Become Jacksonville’s Trade-Chip Surprise?

Could Brian Thomas Jr. Become Jacksonville’s Trade-Chip Surprise?

A 3-1 team turning a former first-round pick into a trade chip would be a jolt. But Brian Thomas Jr.’s muted production and crowded receiver room have put the Jaguars wideout on the early deadline radar.

FOX Sports, citing multiple league sources, reported Thomas could be among the receivers who reach the trade block. An assistant general manager specifically identified him as one of the likelier names to move, pointing to his limited role under Liam Coen and the talent he flashed as a rookie. That’s market intelligence—not evidence Jacksonville is shopping him, negotiating a deal or fielding an offer.

The case for a call is easy to see: Thomas has nine catches for 105 yards and a touchdown through four games, while Parker Washington and Jakobi Meyers have drawn more production. Thomas played just 23 snaps in Week 3, then returned to 38 snaps and scored against Cincinnati in Week 4. That rebound is a meaningful counterpoint to the trade chatter, not a footnote.

The contract could make him attractive to a buyer: Thomas carries a $3.998 million cap hit in 2026 and remains under his rookie deal through 2027. Still, Jacksonville is winning, and moving a young receiver with his rookie-year ceiling would cost the offense upside as well as roster control. The Jaguars’ London game against Philadelphia on Sunday, Oct. 11, offers another chance to see whether his Week 4 role sticks. For now, Thomas is a name worth tracking—not a deal in motion.
