Nick Chubb Announces Retirement After Eight NFL Seasons

Four-time Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb announced his retirement from the NFL on Friday after eight professional seasons.

The 30-year-old, drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the second round in 2018 out of Georgia, spent seven years with the franchise before joining the Houston Texans for the 2025 season. He finishes his career with 7,349 rushing yards and 54 touchdowns over 100 games.

Chubb established himself as one of the league's most consistent backs, earning Pro Bowl honors in four straight seasons from 2019 to 2022. His 2022 campaign featured a career-high 1,525 rushing yards. He ranks third on the Browns' all-time rushing list.

Injuries marked the later stages of his career. A significant knee injury in 2023 ended that season after just two games. He returned in 2024 only to suffer a foot injury later that year. With the Texans last season, he recorded 506 rushing yards in 15 games.

Chubb expressed that he had known for some time and wanted to conclude his playing days on a healthy note after a winning season, which he achieved. He noted the frustration of unfulfilled goals like leading the league in rushing or winning a Super Bowl but took peace in giving his all and having no regrets.

Fans remember his explosive cuts and physical running that powered Cleveland's offense through multiple seasons. The announcement arrives as teams finalize rosters ahead of Week 1, marking the end of a notable chapter in recent NFL rushing history.

His work ethic and durability in his prime left a lasting impression on those who watched him dominate between the tackles.
