Baltimore paid a steep price for a center because its options had run out. The Ravens acquired two-time Pro Bowler Cam Jurgens from Philadelphia, sending the Eagles a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-rounder; Baltimore also received a 2027 seventh-round pick. The deal gives the Ravens an experienced answer to a crisis in the middle of their offensive line—and gives Philadelphia another major roster decision to defend.
Baltimore’s need was immediate: its top three center options were sidelined by long-term injuries, and the team had shifted rookie guard Vega Ioane to center. Jurgens can return to his natural position after playing guard for the Eagles this season. But the Ravens may have to wait for the payoff. Jurgens was in concussion protocol and did not practice Thursday, Oct. 8. Coach Jesse Minter told The Associated Press he expected Jurgens to be ready the following week.
The price is the debate. Jurgens made the Pro Bowl in both 2024 and 2025, but his recent play drew scrutiny after Philadelphia moved him to left guard while Landon Dickerson was out. The Ravens are betting that his earlier form at center matters more than his difficult stretch out of position—and that stabilizing the middle is worth spending a future second-round pick.
For the Eagles, the return is draft capital and flexibility, but the immediate cost is another change up front. They have turned to Drew Kendall at center, while Jurgens’ departure follows right tackle Lane Johnson’s retirement announcement earlier in the week. General manager Howie Roseman has said the move does not mean Philadelphia is giving up on this season; the question is whether a reshuffled line can hold up while the team builds for what comes next.
The trade’s verdict may hinge on two different timelines: whether Jurgens can restore Baltimore’s protection once cleared, and whether Philadelphia’s young replacements can keep its offense functional now. Baltimore bought a potential long-term fix. Philadelphia chose picks and flexibility over keeping a former Pro Bowler in a position of need.
