Kayvon Thibodeaux has resurfaced as a name to watch before the Nov. 10 trade deadline—but the Giants have not been reported to be shopping him, and there’s no indication a deal is close.
On Oct. 3, The Athletic’s Jonathan Jones included the New York edge rusher among six players worth monitoring as the deadline approaches. His update characterized the market as quiet, a distinction that matters: being on a watch list is not the same as a team calling with an offer, much less negotiations underway.
The contract clock is the cleanest reason to keep Thibodeaux in the conversation. He is playing on a 2026 fifth-year option worth $14.751 million and is set to become a free agent after the season. If New York doesn’t see a long-term fit, a trade could bring back draft capital rather than risk losing him without a return. But a buyer would be taking on the remaining salary and the question of what it would cost to keep him beyond 2026.
There’s also a football reason for the Giants to hold firm. Brian Burns is reportedly out for the season with a torn ACL, while Thibodeaux has remained a major part of the defensive rotation. General manager Joe Schoen has previously said the team would listen to calls, but also said Thibodeaux would be with New York. That’s flexibility—not a trade signal.
For now, this is deadline watch-list chatter, not an active market. Thibodeaux’s contract situation makes him a logical name for contenders to track; New York’s depleted edge group makes a midseason sale harder to justify. The next meaningful tell would be reporting of actual team calls or a change in his role—not another speculative trade package.
